Health
Health Concerns of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs:
Like many large breed dogs, there are always some sort of health concerns. Hip and elbow dysplasia, Osteochondritis dessicans (OCD-shoulder), bloat as well as entropian and epilepsy. Like any other living animal, all you can do is try to breed properly, and create as healthy pups as you can.
Health Check
All of our dogs are screened for health problems at 24 months of age. The number one goal is to produce Swissies that will live a long, happy, healthy life. We take breeding very seriously, and our goal is to produce a pup with as few health problems as possible! We check for hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia. As well as having their eyes and heart cleared of any possible problems.
Once they are cleared of all of these possible health problems, then they may be added into our breeding program.
Unfortunately, even if we do all these tests, it still doesn’t guarantee that puppies produced with cleared parents, will never develop hereditary health problems in the future.
