About Swiss Peaks Kennel
This is how it all began,...
I grew up on a horse farm with tons of animals, ranging from ducks to horses, among many other animals. I always had a soft spot for our family dogs, and was happy to take responsibility for them.
In 2003 I went to Switzerland for 6 months after school, to ride and show horses. While I was there, I went to a horse farm where I fell in love, instantly, with Hannah, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. I was taken by her beauty at first, but then soon saw she was far more than just a pretty face. She was very intelligent and so loyal to her owner, that I had to know what breed she was and if we had any back in Canada.
As soon as I got back home, I began my search for the perfect Swissy, however, once I started looking, I soon realized, there weren't many in Canada. Which lead me to start my search in the USA. I found a reputable breeder, Cathy Cooper. I told her my history, and how I needed one of these beauties in my life.
A few months later, in October 2005 I got my eight week old Swissy - Stella. She was adorable, with huge ears and paws. She was even more perfect then I imagined, and her eyes melted my heart. The long wait was well worth it for this beautiful dog. She was everything I could ask for and far more.
In 2007 we welcomed our very first litter of 12 Greater Swiss Mountain Dog puppies, we ended up keeping two females - Gucci and Prada and the rest is pretty well history :)
In 2013 we welcomed our first human baby & decided to hold off on future breedings, however the moment we brought our son home the dogs made the decision for us that we would continue with our breeding program as they were so loving and gentle. Since then we've added another two human babies into the mix now, to make up our family of five.
Since then we have added several quality Swissies to our mix, including importing from Switzerland as well as throughout the United States, as well as Canada.
We truly focus on great temperaments with our dogs, not only because we have small children of our own but many of our families have children as well, it is of the utmost importance for us here at Swiss Peaks.
We're very fortunate to be able to do what we do, and love what we do, as much as we do :)
Our dogs live here with us on the farm, and are very much a part of our family! They are great with both kids and animals.
Swissies are truly such a special breed!
